AGREE. As a relatively fresh writer who’s been reading up a lot on how to get more readership, I’ve been bothered by the hype around “winning headlines”. I couldn’t help but think, Do headlines always have to be so scandalous or pretentious? I get that to do well in this platform you can’t remove marketing from the equation. And that’s why decent and unique headlines matter. But sometimes it almost feels like we reduce a story to its headline. We put so much time and creative energy to iterate titles cause it‘s going to “make or break” the story. It’s crazy.
